The Lenovo officially unveiled two new Android phones today, the S5 Pro and K5 Pro, Lenovo S5 Pro and K5 Pro Unveiled with Dual Cameras with mid-rangers at slightly different price point but with similar features. Lenovo S5 Pro and K5 Pro Unveiled with Dual Cameras and both have a clear focus on photography and pack side-firing stereo speakers along with decently-sized batteries with fast charging.
Lenovo S5 Pro
The Lenovo S5 Pro offers the good things in life delivered at a moderate price. The phone comes with upscale build and with a metal unibody that has been sand-blasted for a satin finish.
The phone is built around a 6.2-inch IPS LCD of 1080p resolution. And there’s a notch screen display. Lenovo S5 Pro and K5 Pro Unveiled with Dual Cameras and it houses both a 20MP camera with a Sony sensor and an infrared 3D face scanner. The scanner is used for security, as well as to enhance selfies.
The 3D model is used for more advanced beautification effects as well as simulating studio lighting. It’s an IMX 476 sensor with 1.0µm pixels size, which can be binned 4 in 1 for better low-light performance (the f/2.2 lens isn’t much help there).
At the back it sports a dual cameras. The main shooter has a 12MP sensor with 1.25µm pixels size and a bright f/1.8 aperture. The secondary module has a 2x telephoto lens (f/2.6) and a 20MP sensor. The rear camera can shoot 4K at 30fps videos, the front one is capped at 1080p.
There’s a fingerprint reader on the back, if you prefer it to face scanning.
The S5 Pro is powered by a Snapdragon 636 chipset paired to 6GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB storage. There’s a hybrid dual SIM slot, so you have the opportunity to expand the storage.
The S5 Pro runs Lenovo’s ZUI software with its own brand of AI. Split screen multitasking is supported and you can have up to 4 accounts for each app (even if the app itself supports only 1).
The phone powered by a 3500mAh battery, which can be charged at 15W (the charger included in the box is rated at 18W, though). If one of your accessories is running low on power, you can use a USB-C cable to charge it from the phone.
The Lenovo S5 Pro can be reserved on Lenovo’s Chinese site and will on shopping store this October 23. It costs CNY 1,300 for the 6GB/64GB model (that’s $190/€160). The 6GB/128GB model is not available yet.
Lenovo K5 Pro
The Lenovo K5 Pro is a more affordable than the S5 Pro. It has a 6” 1080p+ screen, no notch this time, so the usable area is pretty similar. And it’s powered by the same Snapdragon 636 chipset with 4GB or 6GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB of storage space.
Lenovo S5 Pro and K5 Pro Unveiled with Dual Cameras, above the screen is a dual selfie cameras (no IR here) with a 16MP main module and a 5MP depth sensor. The rear dual camera is a similar 16+5MP setup. The main camera has an f/2.0 aperture and uses multi-frame noise reduction for better low-light shots.
Like its S-series sibling, the K5 Pro has side-firing stereo speakers. These are backed by SmartPA amps by NXP with Dirac support. Also the USB-C handles the charging while the 3.5mm headphone jack does audio.
Talking about the battery on this phone is powered by 4050mAh and supports 18W QuickCharge 3.0. It doesn’t look like charging is capped at 15W, you can’t use the phone to charge other devices as well.
The Lenovo K5 Pro is up on Lenovo’s site in China and sales start a bit later October 25. The version 4GB/64GB model will set you back CNY 1,000 ($145/€125), then there’s the 6GB/64GB one for CNY 1,100 and, finally, the top 6GB/128GB model for CNY 1,300 ($190/€160).
